A phobia is an intense fear of something that poses no actual danger. While awareness that the fears are irrational, phobics often find that facing, or even thinking about facing the feared situation brings on a panic attack or severe anxiety.
Phobias are more common than most people realize, and there are hundreds of strange, unique, and funny phobias, along with a string of more serious phobias that can be detrimental to somebody’s well being.
Most phobias are rooted in deep childhood anxiety and situations where a person experienced something overwhelmingly uncomfortable.
During this time, the person may have experienced an elevated level of stress and was unable to cope effectively with it. As a result, they will have a fear of the object, place, situation, or experience, and will tend to avoid it as much as possible.
For the person who HAS the strange phobia, it really isn't funny at all !!!
